5 Tips for Success in Online Quran Classes
Over the past ten years, I have taught hundreds of students online. Some of them progress quickly and achieve their goals, while others struggle. Through this experience, I have noticed what makes the difference between success and frustration.
Here are five tips that will help you succeed in your online Quran learning journey.
1. Create a Dedicated Learning Space
Having a specific place for your Quran classes makes a big difference. It does not have to be a whole room - just a corner with a desk or table where you always take your classes. Keep your Quran, a notebook, and a pen there. When you sit in that space, your mind knows it is time to learn.
What to Avoid:
Do not take classes from your bed or from the living room where other family members are watching TV. Distractions make it much harder to focus and retain what you learn.
2. Test Your Technology Before Class
Nothing wastes class time like technical problems. Five minutes before your class, check your internet connection, your camera, and your microphone. Make sure you know how to share your screen if needed. This way, when the class starts, you are ready to learn.
3. Review Between Classes
The students who improve the most are the ones who review between classes. You do not need to practice for hours - even 10-15 minutes a day makes a huge difference. Try to practice at the same time each day so it becomes a habit.
Daily Practice Idea:
Read for 5 minutes right after Fajr prayer and 5 minutes right after Maghrib. These are calm times of day, and linking practice to prayer helps establish the habit.
4. Ask Questions
Some students feel shy about asking questions. They think they should already know the answer. But asking questions is how we learn. If something is not clear, ask your teacher to explain again or to give another example. A good teacher will never mind answering questions.
5. Be Consistent with Timing
Try to schedule your classes at the same time each week. When classes are at different times, it is easy to forget or to feel rushed. When they are at the same time, it becomes part of your routine, and you will be mentally prepared for learning.
For Parents:
If you are scheduling classes for your children, choose a time when they are usually alert and calm. For many children, this is right after school or after a snack. Avoid times when they are tired or hungry.
